Let’s look at the top snowboarding tips for 2017.

Snowboard in powder snow

Powder snow is pretty different from flat-groomed snow because it is usually thicker, deeper, and a lot stickier. You need to be ready for it to clog underneath the board, hide rocks you won’t be able to see coming, throw you off balance, and chuck different depths and terrain at you. However, you will get the most awesome, if not the sweetest, ride of your life from it.

How exactly do you ride in powder though?

There are two things you need to keep in mind when snowboarding in powder:

  • Lift the nose off the powder every time you are turning
  • Allow your legs to flex as you ride with the terrain

You only need to lean back a bit on the board in order to lift the nose. This will prevent you from getting stuck in the snow. If you forget to do this, you will lose balance and end up face-first in the snow. Instead of staying rigid while you ride, allow your legs to flex and relax in order to work it in powder snow. Off-powder terrains are always lumpy and quite unpredictable with rocks and bumps you won’t be able to see. Try to move with the terrain and keep your legs relaxed while you retain your stance and position. This is a very important tip if you want to succeed in snowboarding on powder snow.

Practice off mountain

During the off-season, it is imperative that you train because staying in shape will help you advance your skills before the time to hit the mountain. By then, you will be ready. You can hit the gym to improve flexibility, leg strength, and core strength. You can pick a different sport like wakeboarding, skateboarding, balance board training, or surfing. You will keep your muscles in shape and have fun at the same time, a win-win situation. In addition to that, you will be safe and prevent injuries when you get back on the snow while still improving on technique.

Ride switch

Most snowboarders tend to fall into the habit of performing the same maneuvers they do every day. However, when you ride switch and start using the opposite foot, rather than the one you use naturally, it will force you to get back to the basics and you will keep the fundamentals in mind. This is not something you need to do all the time but if you do it a few times a day, it will improve your snowboarding skills.

Truth be told, one of the biggest perks of snowboarding is doing incredible tricks while looking cool about it. These top snowboarding tips for 2017 will help you master the pipe and you can start small and simple while you improve every day. More importantly, remember to have fun while you are at it.
